Welcome to the new NurtureSpaces Blog, sponsored by the American Alliance for Parents and Children.

What are Nurture Spaces? Nurture Spaces are places that help cultivate a sense of community, connection and belonging within an accessible, family-friendly context–leveraging contemporary design, architecture and anthropology with important human factors that make public spaces more in-tune with human interaction, the nurture of relationships, and the ever-changing needs of a fast-paced society.

Conceptually speaking, people identify Nurture Spaces with elements of healing, emotion, or a sense of belonging; a spiritual and physical connection that is sometimes hard to define, but is no less part of the desired end result, offering an enhanced experience that connects with the community and the environment.

Unlike Placemaking, Nurture Spaces are being promoted as a new paradigm of thinking about how and why the design of public spaces can help cultivate a special sense of community and belonging, ultimately to enhance the level of participation and ownership stake by all who value and desire a more connected society.

As a concept, it is quickly becoming an important topic of discussion with parents and other stakeholders who are concerned about the health, well-being, and sense of empathy that exists within less connected areas of our society.
